Body Sculpting Q & A

What is body sculpting?

Body sculpting is a general term to describe the different strategies available to eliminate unwanted body fat. They run the gamut from laser therapy and cooling techniques to using ultrasound waves. The options include:

Cold treatments

This approach makes use of temperatures that are cold enough to kill fat cells without damaging your skin. Your skin is first pulled with a suction device then cooled for a certain period of time. This approach can be used on your chin, arms, abdomen, and thighs.

Heat treatments

These techniques make use of laser technology to remove fat. For more information about this effective approach, ask Dr. Rafiq about SculpSure®.

Ultrasound energy

Considered the most time-sensitive of all the available options, this approach uses vibrations manually applied to your problem areas to break down and destroy fat. This treatment can only be used on your abdomen and takes about an hour to complete.

Radiofrequency energy

Using radiofrequency devices to generate heat, this technique specifically targets the water in your fat cells. To be effective, it is essential that you’re hydrated. You might feel a warm sensation during treatment.

What can I expect after body sculpting?

Most of these treatments require between two and four sessions to be effective. Each session lasts between 25 minutes to an hour. Don’t be surprised if you experience some swelling, bruising, redness, or tenderness following treatment. In a few days, those side effects go away.

It takes between 12 and 16 weeks for your body to completely dispose of the fat. But once it’s gone, it’s gone for good.
