Getting the Exercise You Need While Dealing With Asthma

An asthma diagnosis should not mean giving up all the physical activities you or your child enjoy. Exercise is an important part of overall health and wellbeing, which is why it is recommended that you do what you can, within your limits.

If you can squeeze in at least 30 minutes of exercise per day over a five day period, asthma shouldn’t cause any significant issues for must sufferers. The important thing is that you consult with a qualified doctor and choose sensible exercise options that will keep you fit and healthy.

Start Walking

Walking is an underrated form of exercise, and it is ideal for asthma sufferers. You don’t have to walk for miles every day, either. Taking the stairs, parking farther away from work or walking to school will significantly increase your fitness levels, over a short period of time.

If you are feeling up to it, you can also incorporate some light jogging or running into your daily routine. Just make sure you have your inhalers with you at all times, and don’t push yourself too hard if you are having a bad day with your asthma.

Do the Things You Love

The great thing about play is that it acts as a perfect distraction from thinking about your asthma. You will have fun while exercising, and your kids and pets will appreciate the time you spend together. Walking to the park coupled with play will provide you with more than enough exercise in a single day.

If you are interested in gardening, you may find spending time tending to your lawn, flowers and vegetables is hardly like work at all. You can get lost in the pleasure of it, and forget about your asthma for a little while.
